Hawkins sworn in as newest 12th District Representative
Rep. Brad Hawkins, R-East Wenatchee, took the oath of office January 14 to serve his first term as a state representative for the 12th District. While his family watched from the state House chamber gallery, Hawkins was sworn in on the first day of the 2013 Legislative Session. “I’m honored the citizens of North Central Washington have trusted me to represent them. I will always be thinking of them when making decisions in Olympia. I look forward to this opportunity to serve,” Hawkins said.
The district includes all of Chelan and Douglas Counties and parts of Okanogan and Grant Counties. Hawkins works at the Douglas County PUD and served on two school boards in addition to having worked on staff at the Washington State Legislature.
During the 2013 legislative session, Hawkins will serve on three policy committees:
- the Education Committee which considers issues relating to K-12 education;
- the Capital Budget Committee, as assistant ranking member, which considers the state capital budget and approves money for the construction and repair of public buildings;
- the Business and Financial Services Committee which considers the licensing and regulation of businesses and professions.
“I am excited about all three committee assignments. In particular, I believe my experience serving on local school boards will be useful to the legislative process and our district. This is the first time since 1978 that a representative from the 12th District has served on the House Education Committee,” Hawkins said.
Hawkins’s Olympia office will be staffed by his Legislative Assistant, Taylor Kenck.
